This is using Windows XP…

When looking at my life list on BirdPost, I can click on my Pacific Loon. A picture of the Loon appears on the left, with a list of my sightings. The sighting has a “Map It” button, which I assume allows me to add this bird to my map.

I click on “Map It” and get to my map. I navigate to where I want the pin to go, and I double click. But rather than linking this pin with my Pacific Loon sighting in my lifelist, I am asked to report a new sighting.

How do I get my existing sighting to link up with a new pin in my map?

Hi Oliver,
Once upon a time you used to be able to map sightings from un-mapped sightings within your life list. All you had to do was click on “Map it” amd then click on “Unmapped sightings” which appeared in top right corner of the map. You were then asked to select “Go to location” and then click on your list of unmapped sightings of that particular species. I used to do it regularly but lately a gremlin has occurred within the programming and it dosn`t work anymore. I raised this issue with Ben and he advised me to always enter sightings and map locations from within “The Map”.
The ability to map sightings from “My Birds” was very useful, especially if you had entered birds sightings into your life list by submitting a list of birds. Why it no longer works I have no idea? Maurice.

Once all the sightings have been cleared out of the “Unmapped Sightings” area that tab on the MyBirds page becomes “Mapped Sightings” and reflects all the sightings that a user has mapped over time.

I have no unmapped sightings on “MyBirds” page but cannot find a tab anywhere on that page that accesses “Mapped Sightings” as you suggest?
Unless of course you mean the “Map” tab on each and every individual species sightings.

Maurice,
I just ‘mapped’ all my ‘Unmapped Sightings’ and was able to view ALL of my sightings on the map. On the My Lifelist page there should now be three tabs, IMAGE VIEW, LIST VIEW, and MAP VIEW. Selecting MAP VIEW should bring up the map with all of your sightings. You may have to do this twice, some quirk of the software frequently brings up the (wrong) default location, but it always works on the second attempt….. Hope this helps!

Hi John,
Thanks for that. I gave it a try and initially the Map View centred on California. However, with persistence it finally re-located to Europe. Unfortunately not all of my sightings were downloaded on to the map, whole areas were missing. If I then searched for sightings in those particular areas by selecting “The Map” and then the site and “Find sightings”, up they popped! Where had they been hiding?

We are going to upload a change to this feature shortly. Now, on the MyBirds page there will be 4 tabs: Image View, List View, Map View, and Unmapped Sightings. This will solve the problem – sorry for the confusion guys and thanks for reporting this…
